In the early 1900s Joseph Pilates created a system of movements to balance, strengthen, and rejuvenate the body from the inside out.
Pilates is that system of movements. “Classical” Pilates adheres more closely to Joe’s body of uses the exercises as a system to treat the individual.
I am not anti-contemporary at all! But the focus of this studio is the traditional because it’s just so good.
Pilates is not one size fits all. It is strategic and your practice will change as your body changes. When done right, it is just as challenging for a seasoned client as it is for a beginner. It grows and changes with us.
Classical equipment is made to the measurements Joe prescribed and, I think, better allows the body to work from the center, working the whole body in each exercise. -
Absolutely! Everyone starts as a beginner. The beauty of privates or small group sessions is that you can get right to the exercises that work for you. There are no filler exercises that work for an entire class of bodies.
You will begin learning the core movements in Pilates’ system and slowly add on exercises and equipment used. -
In a private session you have my entire focus. This is good if you have special injuries or concerns . Privates give us time to find the exercises that are right for you and / or modifications or props you may need. Also some people like to work alone.
Duets promote a feeling of community in learning and allow for the cost to be shared.
Lots of people begin with private sessions, then move on to duets or do both. -
Not at all. Every body is different and Pilates is for everybody. You may start on the same equipment, but your exercises will vary depending on your body’s needs.
Typically after some reformer or matwork, partners may go to different apparatus that supports the work in their body, on that day. -
Yes! If you have your camera set to see your whole body, they are a very effective way to have a Pilates practice at your convenience, in the comfort of your home.
Remember the mat is the soul of Pilates. so you will get strong and balanced without any large equipment, however, you can include props too.
Some clients own reformers or springboards, etc but want instruction to learn where to move from. If you get access to equipment, we can do a zoom session on it. -
